Muniz was bleeding from a cut over his left eyebrow and another cut above his right cheek. Napoles dominated the bout from the early going. He knocked down Muniz with 10 seconds to go in the 8th round with a right jab and a left hook, but the challenger got up quickly. Muniz stayed in close with his head lowered and directed his punches at Napoles body, until the 7th round. He then began throwing lefts and rights at the champion's head, but was no match for Napoles' powerful and swift left jabs which punished the challenger's face.
