Freitas quits in the tenth after enduring a vicious beating from Corrales in the first defense of his WBO lightweight title. The loss was the first of Freitas's career.

Appearing on the undercard of a bout between Erik Morales and Kevin Kelley, undefeated IBF Super Featherweight Champion Diego Corrales defends hit title against Angel Manfredy. Manfredy starts off boxing well but foolishly trades left hooks with Corrales and gets flattened midway through the first round. He recovers well and lands some clean shots in the second and third round but walks into another left hook from Corrales that has him hurt. Corrales rains blows on Manfredy, including a left hook that makes his knee touch down on the canvas for another knockdown. Although Manfredy continues, he eats heavy leather from Corrales until a big right hand drops him into the ropes for a third knockdown. Manfredy shows incredible heart in beating the count, but Referee Jerry McKenzie stops him on his feet as he continues to take punishment from Corrales.

Guts & Glory: Diego Corrales vs. Angel Manfredy 

IBF Super Featherweight Champion Diego Corrales shares a billing with WBC Champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. in order to build interest in a fight between them. Mayweather wins a landslide decision against Gregorio Vargas while Corrales defends his title against Roy Jones protege Derrick Gainer on the undercard. The bout is even until Corrales puts Gainer down twice in the third round. Though Gainer beats the count both times, Referee Jay Nady doesn't like what he sees and controversially stops the fight.
