In perhaps the best 154-pound fight ever held, undefeated WBA Champion Felix Trinidad and undefeated IBF Champion Fernando Vargas go to war to unify their titles. Vargas is dropped twice in the first round but climbs off the canvas to floor Trinidad several rounds later. As the bout gets heated, both fighters lose points for low blows. Trinidad finally ends matters with three brutal knockdowns in the twelfth round, and Referee Jay Nady has no choice but to stop the epic battle of wills.

On the strength of two knockdowns, Mayorga pounds out a close decision over Vargas, who has not fought since. Mayorga eventually returned to headline another Showtime PPV event almost four years later, against Miguel Cotto in 2011.

In a clash of former Super Welterweight champions, Shane Mosley revives his floundering career with a stoppage win over Fernando Vargas. Mosley starts fast, busting Vargas up with right hands and producing a hematoma over his left eye. Vargas mounts a rally throughout the middle rounds with power shots of his own, but Mosley again pours it on down the stretch until Vargas's left eye is swollen shut, prompting Referee Joe Cortez to stop the fight.
